"Me Season": The Tech Tea with Kimberly

To say it has been a long time is an understatement, and it truly feels like forever since we last connected. The passage of time has brought with it a whirlwind of experiences, emotions, and transformations that have shaped my journey in ways I could never have anticipated.

I have missed you during this time apart, but I want to assure you that I have been bouncing back and moving forward with renewed vigor and purpose. The journey has not always been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding, filled with opportunities for growth and learning.

Here is the briefest recap that you will get, but I promise it is packed with significance: 2024 turned out to be a truly cool year for me. I made the pivotal decision to reenter the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the 5th oldest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the nation, which is proudly situated right here in the city of Memphis—the esteemed LeMoyne-Owen College. This institution holds a special place in my heart, and stepping back into this role felt like a homecoming filled with promise and potential.

Since re-entering the role, there have been a couple of celebratory moments that have marked this exciting chapter of my professional life:

  • I was honored to be appointed as a 2025 advisor for the Women in Leadership Advisory Board for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This role allows me to support and uplift the next generation of female leaders, and I am thrilled to contribute to such an important initiative.

  • Additionally, I was nominated for the prestigious TennesseeCIO ORBIE Awards, an acknowledgment that recognizes excellence in IT leadership. This nomination is not just a personal achievement; it reflects the hard work and dedication of my entire team.

  • Furthermore, I was recognized as the MEMTech Trailblazer honoree for 2024, an accolade that celebrates innovation and leadership in technology within our community. I am deeply grateful for this recognition, which serves as a testament to the impact we are making at LeMoyne-Owen College.

So, I have been happily moving along and enjoying the journey, embracing each moment with gratitude and enthusiasm. The support from my colleagues and the community has been incredibly motivating, and I am excited about what lies ahead.

In addition to my personal milestones, there have also been some fantastic team wins at LeMoyne-Owen College that I am eager to share:

  1. We successfully upgraded our computer labs, providing students with access to state-of-the-art technology that enhances their learning experience and prepares them for the demands of the modern workforce.

  2. The grand opening of the Lowery Communication Center has been a significant achievement, creating a hub for collaboration and innovation that fosters communication skills among our students.

  3. We have implemented network improvements that ensure reliable connectivity across campus, facilitating seamless access to resources and information for both students and faculty.

  4. Telecommunication improvements have also been made, enhancing our ability to communicate effectively and efficiently within our college community and beyond.

Since this feels like a winning season, I encourage you to view this document for ways to celebrate your work wins. It’s important to take a moment to acknowledge the progress we make, both individually and collectively, as we strive toward our goals. Otherwise, I would engage in way too much car karaoke.

As we look ahead, I’m excited to take some trips down memory lane and reflect on our journey together as we start to become more regular with the blog postings. There’s so much to share, and I can’t wait to reconnect with you through these updates.

N-Joy! I look forward to sharing more soon and hearing about your own journeys and successes.

Although I did most of this with a fractured ankle, it's still feeling like "Me Season."
